Every Soul Turns Toward Its Source
Proclus, head of the Platonic Academy at Athens in the 5th century, set the law of the Return at the heart of his Elements of Theology:
«Πᾶν τὸ προϊὸν ἀπό τινος κατ᾽ οὐσίαν ἐπιστρέφεται πρὸς ἐκεῖνο ἀφ᾽ οὗ πρόεισιν.»
“All that proceeds from any principle reverts in respect of its being upon that from which it proceeds.”
In the proof he adds the reason: ὀρέγεται ἄρα καὶ τῆς ἑαυτῶν αἰτίας ἕκαστα, “each thing therefore desires its own cause.” The river runs back to the sea. The spark leaps back toward the fire.
Your soul proceeded from the Gods. The longing you feel for Them is the Return already at work inside you. The desire itself is the proof of your origin, because no being longs for a home it never had.

The Calling doesn’t fade. It can be ignored for years, buried under work and worry, and it still waits, patient as the stars. The Gods placed it in you, and They keep it lit.
The initiates of old carried a password for the other world, written on leaves of gold. It began: Γῆς παῖς εἰμι καὶ Οὐρανοῦ ἀστερόεντος, αὐτὰρ ἐμοὶ γένος οὐράνιον, “I am a child of Earth and starry Heaven, but my race is of Heaven” (gold tablet of Petelia).
